Commentary | In the foreground, don Quixote attacking the flock of sheep.
In the background, the shepherds preparing their slings to stone don Quixote while Sancho gesticulates to stop him. The scene has been represented with a composition already used in London: Hodgkin, 1687. Acceptable engraving, but drawing with notable disproportions. |
Notes | 1 - Plate V.
2 - Surrounded by a strong line enclosing underneath a space for inscription, which however has been left blank. 3 - Copy after Le Bas' illustration (La Haye: Hondt, 1746). 4 - Probably, the copy has been done after the plate for Paris/La Haye: Chez Bleuet, 1774, which has a similar frame and underneath space but with caption. 5 - The plate is not signed. |
